We see the questions in expat groups and travel forums all the time: Is Amazon in Portugal? No, unfortunately not.
Amazon doesn’t have warehouses in Portugal, and there is no Amazon Portugal website you can visit, but they do ship to Portugal via Amazon Spain and other Amazon hubs, such as Amazon Germany, Amazon Italy, and even Amazon France.
So, of your options, what are the best alternatives to Amazon Portugal? Follow along as we show you how to get your Amazon fix while in Portugal and share some awesome alternatives for shopping, both online and at Portuguese stores such as Gato Preto and Continente.
Does Amazon Deliver to Portugal?
Yes, Amazon ships to Portugal! However, Amazon does not have a formal presence in Portugal. That is to say that there are no Amazon warehouses or Prime Now locations in the country. However, that doesn’t mean that Portuguese residents or those visiting Portugal can’t take advantage of Amazon’s many services and get products delivered to their homes or Airbnbs.
Amazon.com is available in Portuguese, and customers can ship items to Portugal from other Amazon warehouses around the world. In addition, online shoppers in Portugal can also use AmazonGlobal to ship items from third-party sellers on Amazon.com to Portugal. So although Amazon itself isn’t in Portugal yet, its products and services are still accessible to Portuguese consumers.
Amazon Alternatives to Amazon Portugal
Because Amazon doesn’t have a formal presence in Portugal, there is currently no Amazon Portugal website you can visit. The easiest way to get Amazon products delivered in Portugal is to create an account with Amazon Spain. Most of the products on Amazon Spain are available to be shipped to Portugal (which isn’t the case with other Amazon sites in Europe, such as Amazon France or Amazon Germany).

Does Amazon Spain deliver to Portugal? Yep! It’s the best and easiest way to order on Amazon when living in or traveling through Portugal. You don’t pay customs fees, and shipping fees are pretty much the same as if you lived in Spain. While the website might initially be in Spanish, you can change it to any language you want and then enter a Portuguese address for shipping.
Amazon Spain: The Best Alternative to Amazon Portugal
If you’re looking for the best alternative to Amazon Portugal (of which there currently is none), then we’d recommend creating an account with Amazon Spain. Amazon Spain delivery to Portugal is generally faster than the shipping times you’ll find on Amazon Germany, and the site is available in both Portuguese and English.
Likewise, you can get an Amazon Prime subscription and enjoy Prime perks similar to what you would if you were using your Amazon account in the US (we haven’t confirmed whether this works the same in countries like the UK and Canada). And best of all, with Amazon Prime in Spain, you can count on free shipping for orders over €29. They guarantee two-day free shipping, in that case, to all of mainland Portugal (on most products).
Amazon Germany: A Close Second-Best Alternative to Amazon Portugal
Amazon Germany is another alternative to the non-existent Amazon Portugal. This is the second-best option after Amazon Spain, but, of course, you can sign up for Amazon Italy, Amazon France, etc.
Most of these won’t charge you import fees like you would see if you purchase your main Amazon US account. However, they don’t tend to ship as many products to Portugal as Amazon Spain does and sometimes charge higher shipping costs due to the increased distance from Portugal.
Ultimately, it’s worth checking out other Amazon sites if you’re purchasing a larger item.
For example, we compared products from Amazon Germany and Amazon Italy when shopping for our computer desks and TV stands. Amazon Spain ultimately offered the best styles at the best prices, but it was interesting to see the other options available.
Amazon Portugal Delivery: How to Get Amazon Orders Shipped to Portugal
Shipping Amazon orders to an address in Portugal works similarly to shipping an Amazon order to your home address in the US or any other country. You’ll have to enter your shipping information when you go to checkout. While this might seem simple enough, with confusing Portuguese addresses, this can quickly become a shipping and logistics nightmare (speaking from personal experience).
The biggest Amazon shipping mistake people make when ordering Amazon items and having them shipped to Portugal is entering the apartment number.
Be sure to include the street address, apartment number, and (if applicable) the direction indicator (ESQ, for example, which means the apartment is on the left-hand side of the floor).
If the address isn’t complete, most delivery companies won’t deliver the package because the address is “incomplete.”
If you’re living in or staying in a house in the countryside, then you might find that the mailbox isn’t large enough to receive packages.
Most delivery companies in Portugal won’t leave them sitting outside your mailbox. In this case, we’d recommend asking an office or local shop to receive your package. If it’s an emergency, you can try speaking with your Airbnb host or the hotel concierge, and they’ll most likely be very willing (and happy) to help you figure out the logistics of it all.
Are There Amazon Lockers in Portugal?
- Amazon Lockers, unfortunately, don’t exist in Portugal yet. Some delivery companies will allow you to schedule a delivery to a nearby pickup location, though. However, this isn’t always the case, so it’s best to plan accordingly.
- Your best alternative to Amazon Lockers and mail forwarding systems in Portugal is going to be to sign up for Bounce. If you’re just receiving a package one time, you can pay €5 for that one delivery, which might be worth it if you’re staying at an Airbnb and don’t want to send an Amazon package there. However, if you’re expecting a lot of packages, then their monthly fee is €20.
Local Alternatives to Amazon Portugal
There’s no denying that Amazon is super convenient for a lot of stuff, especially when you’re far from home and need something essential for an upcoming trip from Lisbon to Porto or even the Azores. Amazon has everything from packing cubes and replacement phone chargers to travel pillows and clothing. However, Amazon isn’t your only option in Portugal.
You’ll find many other large stores where you can purchase clothing, home goods, and even furniture (if you’re moving to Portugal and not just here for a quick trip), along with local shops and small businesses that offer unique items you won’t find anywhere else. While we always recommend shopping locally when possible, here is a helpful list of some alternatives to Amazon that you’ll find in most major cities.

Worten
Worten is a Portuguese electronics and home appliance retailer with over 230 stores throughout the country and in parts of Spain. Founded in 1996, Worten offers various products, including TVs, laptops, phones, and appliances.
Worten will be your best bet for things like chargers, batteries, hair dryers, electric toothbrushes, and similar items. However, if you’re planning on moving to Portugal, we compared prices across multiple stores and found that Worten has the best price for large appliances.
We’ve purchased a fridge and a large TV from Worten. For both of those large purchases, we received free delivery within three business days, and the guys who delivered our fridge hauled it up four flights of stairs and plugged it in for us.
El Corte Inglés
While El Corte Inglés was originally founded in Spain, the first foreign location of the popular megastore was inaugurated in Lisbon in 2001. The El Corte Inglés location in Lisbon is located just outside of the São Sebastião metro stop and boasts over eight floors of departments to browse through. This means that you can find everything from bath towels and mattresses to desks, electronics, and even groceries.
You can find the other El Corte Inglés location in Portugal at El Corte Inglés Gaia Porto. However, you have limited in-person options if you don’t live in one of Portugal’s two main cities. Likewise, we’ve found the prices at El Corte Inglés to be outrageously expensive for most basic items. This makes Amazon Spain a better alternative for most people who have the time to wait for something to get delivered.
FNAC
FNAC has been an established brand in France since the 1950s and a staple in Portugal since 1998. In fact, there are currently 34 FNAC locations all over Portugal, making it a slightly more accessible option than El Corte Inglés for those living outside of Lisbon or Porto.
This retail company sells a wide variety of products, ranging from books and music to electronics and appliances. In recent years, they have expanded their online presence and now offer their products for sale on their website as well. We have found their prices to be somewhat comparable to Worten, making FNAC a great spot to stop in and pick up camera batteries, hair straighteners, and even wireless earbuds for your travels.
IKEA
Aside from popular retailers such as Gato Preto, Area, and other similar furniture stores, the biggest and most budget-friendly option for purchasing furniture in Portugal will be IKEA. While this might not apply to travelers visiting Portugal on vacation, it’s a great option for those moving to Portugal.
For larger items such as bed frames, mattresses, dressers, and similar furniture, IKEA was a great option for us. We visited our local IKEA in Lisbon to test items and browse different options. Then, we ordered online to benefit from the delivery of the heavy items straight to our door instead of lugging them up our stairs. It was well worth the €35 delivery fee.
Tips for Ordering From Amazon Spain in Portugal
We can’t deny the incredible convenience of ordering from Amazon, especially for bulk orders where you can have lots of little miscellaneous items delivered at once. If you have time to wait for Amazon to deliver items to your Airbnb, hotel, or new home, you’ll want to avoid some of the most common ordering mistakes that can lead to delayed deliveries or failed deliveries entirely.
Namely, double-check the Portuguese address you’re delivering to before confirming any order on Amazon. This also means ensuring that your zip code is correct, which is tricky in Lisbon and can be difficult in other parts of Portugal.
Additionally, if you can, write a Portuguese number on any delivery form you fill out. It’s common for delivery companies to call to confirm a delivery they’re about to make. While that’s helpful to a) ensure you’re home and can receive the package and b) to help provide them with any directions they’ve needed, it also means that if they can’t get a hold of you or speak with someone directly, they’re likely to skip the delivery and try again the next day.
If you don’t have a Portuguese number, write down an accessible phone number where they can reach you, whether that’s an international number you can receive calls on or another European number you’re using from a SIM card you’ve picked up throughout your European travels.
Insider Tip: Ultimately, if you’re just traveling through Portugal and need a few items delivered from Amazon, we’d recommend signing up for Bounce or another similar service. This will save you the headache of having anything delivered to a temporary address like a hotel or guesthouse. Or, visit a local store and stock up on necessary items there instead of ordering from Amazon.
